Journalism and Spanish for the Professions Student at CU Boulder
Hello! My name is Tayler Shaw and I am a passionate storyteller.
I am currently working as a city desk intern for The Denver Post, covering breaking news and local issues impacting local communities. I also work as a student communications professional for CMCI at CU Boulder.
I recently graduated from CU with a dual degree in journalism and Spanish for the Professions, as well as a minor in leadership studies and anthropology.
I am a Colorado native and was raised in Littleton, Colorado. Beyond my love for writing, I also enjoy creating music, walking my dog, and spending time with my family and friends.
My passion for writing began as a child, whether it be writing a book report or writing a fictional story. At the end of my senior year of high school, I began to think about how I could combine my passion for writing with my desire to better the world. That's when I found journalism.
Journalism offers the unique opportunity to offer accurate, credible information to the public so that individuals can be better-informed and make decisions that best serve their interests. As technology and media rapidly changes, I have focused on learning the foundational principles of ethical journalism while also becoming a multimedia producer of broadcast videos, podcasts, and much more.
My love for Spanish began with my first Spanish class in the ninth grade. What I thought would be a hobby became a professional goal, as I realized the lack of information and press offered to Spanish-speaking communities within the U.S. and Colorado—something I hope to change by becoming a bilingual journalist. In the fall of 2019, I officially declared a dual degree in Spanish for the Professions and journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder).
My mission is simple: to empower others with information. I believe information is power, and everyone has a right to that power. As an aspiring bilingual journalist, I am able to combine my passion for storytelling with my desire to better the world.
